Arlington, Va. - Arlington, Va. - The Georgetown men's tennis team (2-7) was unable to hold off Yale, falling 5-2 on Saturday evening at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. Sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) and junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) earned singles victories for the Hoyas.
Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and Gross won the No. 2 doubles match, defeating Mike Caldwell and Connor Dawson, 8-3. Though Yale was able to squeak by in the No. 1 doubles match, with junior Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) and sophomore Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) falling, 8-6. Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and Tillem lost in another close match at No. 3, 8-5, as Yale captured the team doubles point.
From there, the Bulldogs went on a run, taking the first three singles matches, with Rory Green clinching the match by defeating sophomore Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match.
In the No. 5 singles match, Tillem took out Calvin Bennett in two closely contested sets, 7-6(2), 7-5. Gross defeated Matt Schimmel in three sets, winning a dramatic No. 6 singles match, 3-6, 7-6(4), 10-6 to help the Hoyas close out on a positive note.
