Hoya Headliner Introduces Incoming Freshman Brandon Basso

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The newest installment of Hoya Headliner introduces freshman defensive end Brandon Basso. Basso, of Woodbridge, Conn., was a three-sport standout at Amity Regional High School before spending a prep year at Choate Rosemary Hall, excelling in football, basketball and lacrosse. As a team captain in 2007, Basso earned all-state, all-area, all-conference and team MVP honors. Here's your first look at the freshman…

Hoya Headliner:
What coach recruited you and how was the recruiting process for you?
Basso: Coach (Jim) Miceli recruited me. The recruiting process was good and coach made me feel comfortable with the decision.

Hoya Headliner: How long have you been on campus for?
Basso: Six days

Hoya Headliner:
Have you enjoyed being on campus so far?
Basso: Yes, it's a good routine.

Hoya Headliner: What ultimately was the final decision in your selecting Georgetown?
Basso: It's a great school, and I wanted be a part of building the program.

Hoya Headliner:
How has the transition from high school to college been for you so far?
Basso: I'm starting back at the bottom of the food chain, but that's expected.

Hoya Headliner: Has anything surprised you as far as the amount of conditioning and weight room work you are doing?
Basso: We are warned of the running and lifting that goes on in the summer so it is expected.

Hoya Headliner: What were your first impressions when you faced the challenge of the famed Exorcist Steps?
Basso: I'm injured, so I haven't done them yet.

Hoya Headliner:
Are there any players you've become friends with right away?
Basso: I'm living with James Brady and Rick Rattay, so we're getting along well off the bat.

Hoya Headliner: Have you been able to explore M Street and Washington, D.C. at all?
Basso: I took a drive down it but haven't shopped.

What song gets you pumped up before games?
Basso: "For Those About to Rock" by ACDC and "Boom" by P.O.D.

Who is your favorite football player?
Basso: Lawrence Taylor and Sean Taylor

Who are your favorite teams, first in football and then other sports?
Basso: New York Giants

What would you do if you won a million dollars?
Basso: Invest it and earn interest.
