Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown Hoyas will host the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Preview this weekend Sept. 7-8 (Sunday-Monday) at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Fifteen teams competing in the 54-hole tournament including teams from the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC. The tournament will serve as a preview for the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship that will be played at the Caves Valley Golf Club May 19-22.
This weekend's preview will include top-ranked programs nationwide. USC, who are the defending National Champions, will be in attendance. Sophomore Caroline Kim finished her 2007 season with a stroke average of 78.25 for the Trojans. The Arizona State Sun Devils are ranked fourth in the Golf World/NGCA Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll. ASU also has three players in the top 10 players to watch this season including Azahara Munoz and teammate Anna Nordqvist. The Oklahoma State Cowgirls will also start the season ranked in the top 10 by Golf World/ NGCA Coaches Poll. Senior Pernilla Lindberg led the squad last year with a 73.44 stroke average. The Denver Pioneers will also be in attendance. The Pioneers tied for sixth last year and only graduated one player. They are also ranked in the top ten by Golf World. The three-time national champions, Duke Blue Devils are also expected to hold a strong presence on the course.
Hoya Lineup
The Hoyas will start their season this weekend playing in the first of five tournaments. Senior Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy), who earned ALL-BIG EAST honors last season, posted a team-best 76.82 stroke average in 22 rounds. Junior Carly Hunt (Easton, Pa./Conestoga), played in all 10 tournaments for the Hoyas last year and posted the team second-best stroke average at 78.82 in 22 rounds. Junior Robyn English (Warwick, R.I./St. Mary Academy), appeared in five tournaments last year for the Hoyas posting an 85. 20 stroke average in 10 rounds. English also tied for 33rd place at the NIU Spring lake Invitational, shooting 29-over par 173.
Senior Leadership
Curtis also tied for second place at two of the ten Hoyas tournaments, the Princeton Invitational (8-over par 152) and the First Market Bank Intercollegiate (6-over par 150).
Three members of the Hoyas were named to the National Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-American list in past July - junior Carly Hunt, junior Robyn English and sophomore Christine Curley
Coach
Coach Patty Post will be starting her third season with the Hoyas. Post came to Georgetown after spending the last six year as a teaching professional and player. She joins the Hoyas after serving as the Assistant Golf Professional at Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Md. For two years (2004-05). Prior to that, she spent two years (2003-04) at Admiral's Cove Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida and was the Teaching Professional at Fair Oaks Golf Park in nearby Fairfax, Virginia from 2001-05. A 1999 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Post enjoyed a stellar amateur career. She was the Wisconsin Amateur Champion in 1998, and was named the most valuable player on the Wisconsin team in 1997 and 1999.

COURSE INFORMATION: Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Designed by nationally acclaimed golf course architect Tom Fazio as "a golfer's club," Caves Valley is one of a few clubs in America focused solely on golf and golfer's needs. The course features 18 holes, each uniquely fashioned to suit the natural environment, as well as a comprehensive state of the art practice facility which includes multiple practice ranges with sand bunkers, chipping greens and putting greens. The golf professional staff is highly regarded for their teaching expertise and their hospitality toward members and guests. The course became fully playable in July 1991.

Hoyas host the NCAA Preview: The top collegiate women golfers will be in Owings Mill, Md. this weekend for the 2008 NCAA Preview. The 2009 NCAA Championships will be held in Owings Mill, Md. the following Spring and it will give the teams a chance to get a feel for the course.
