Hoyas Beat Bison!

Sept. 7, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kenny Mitchell had 68 receiving yards and a touchdown on two long catches in the fourth quarter, leading Georgetown to a 12-7 win against Howard.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools, which are located about three miles apart. The cross-town universities agreed to a four-game series earlier this year, and the inaugural meeting - originally scheduled for Saturday - was postponed a day because of Tropical Storm Hanna. About 6,000 fans watched the game Sunday at Howard's Greene Stadium under clear, sunny skies.

Georgetown picked up 89 of its 137 passing yards in the fourth quarter, the bulk of it coming on the two passes from James Brady to Mitchell in the period's first 30 seconds.

Brady, who finished 12-of-20 passing for 131 yards and the Hoyas' only touchdown, opened the fourth quarter with a 37-yard strike to Mitchell down the left sideline. Two plays later, Brady found a wide-open Mitchell downfield for a 31-yard score. Georgetown's Casey Dobyns added a 40-yard field goal on its next possession.

Howard's Arlandus Hood caught nine passes for 114 yards. The Bison led most of the game after a 5-yard touchdown pass from Floyd Haigler to Willie Carter in the first quarter. Georgetown made it 7-3 with Dobyn's 19-yard field goal in the second.

Howard's final drive ended on the Georgetown 34-yard line when Haigler fumbled the ball as he cocked to pass with 42 seconds left.
