Lehigh scored three touchdowns in the first half and limited Georgetown to 125 yards in total offense en route to 27-0 win over Georgetown in front of 5,789 fans at Goodman Stadium Saturday afternoon.
It was the sixth-straight loss this season, and the seventh-straight dating back to 2008, for the Hoyas, who fall to 0-6 and 0-4 in the Patriot League. Lehigh improves to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
After the teams traded punts to start the game, Lehigh got on board first, using a 7-play, 43-yard drive - capped by a 17-yard pass to Craig Zurn from Chris Lum - and took a 6-0 lead (the extra point failed) with 4:56 left in the first quarter.
The Hoyas were forced to fun on the following possession, but took control near midfield when a pass from Lum was tipped by sophomore defensive back David Quintero (Miramar, Fla./Ft. Lauderdale) and intercepted by junior linebacker Paul Sant'Ambrogio (Bloomfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep). Georgetown, which accumulated 3 rushing yards in the first half, could not get the offense started and was forced to punt.
Early in the second quarter, a punt from senior Brian Josephs (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) was blocked, giving the Mountain Hawks the ball on the Georgetown 8-yard line. Lum threw a 7-yard pass to Jake Drwal on the third play of the drive as Lehigh took a 13-0 lead with 12:11 to play before halftime.
Georgetown's best chance of the first half came when a long drive ended on a missed 31-yard field goal attempt from senior kicker Jose-Pablo Buerba (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep). Junior slot Keerome Lawrence (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) had two carries for 15 yards and caught four passes for 30 yards from freshman quarterback Isaiah Kempf (Glendale, Ariz. / Oaks Christian-Bridgton).
Leading 13-0, Lehigh took over at the 20-yard line following the missed field goal and used an 11-play, 80-yard drive that ate up 4:16 to toke a 20-0 lead on a 7-yard run from Jaren Walker with 1:42 to play.
The Mountain Hawks added a score midway through the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass from Lum to De'Vaughn Gordon.
Junior linebacker Nick Parrish (Irving, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), who leads the Patriot League and ranks 20th in the country in tackles, registered a game-high 12 tackles, while junior linebacker Patrick O'Donnell (Media, Pa./Penncrest) picked up 10 tackles and seniors Chudi Obianwu (Southampton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and Travis Mack (West Chester, Pa./The Hill School) had eight apiece.
Georgetown returns home next weekend, hosting No. 24 Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Field on Parents' Weekend.
