Georgetown Takes Seventh Place at Georgetown Intercollegiate

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - UNC-Greensboro, led by senior Ryan Heisey who fired a 2-under par 69, rallied from an eleven-shot deficit to win the 25th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate, being held at The Members Club at Four Streams. UNC-Greensboro began the day in second place, 11 shots behind Washington State which finished second overall. The team had four players finish in the top-20 and combined to shoot an 18-over par 586.

The first day of play had originally been scheduled for two rounds and 36 holes of play, but inclement weather in the Washington, D.C. area, combined with frost in the morning, forced the teams to play only 18 holes on Monday. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes and Tuesday's final round included 18.

UNC-Greensboro finished with an 18-over par 586 and won by three strokes over Washington State, second at 21-over par 589. Richmond followed close behind in third with a 23-over par 591, beating out fourth place Campbell, 24-over 592. Miami (Ohio) rounded out the top five with a 27-over par 595.

Washington State freshman Hank Frame won medalist honors after posting a 1-over par 143 for the tournament. He finished one stroke ahead of UNC-Greensboro sophomore Will Almand and Detroit senior David Byrne who finished in a tie for second.

Georgetown was led by sophomore Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek), who tied for ninth place overall finishing with a 5-over par 147. Junior Brandon Ellis (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) shot an impressive 2-over par 73 in the second round to finish in a tie for 20th at 8-over par 150. Senior Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont) finished in a tie for 38th with a 12-over par 154. Freshman Brad Cadigan (South Weymouth, Mass./Boston College Prep) finished in a tie for 47th with a 14-over par 156 after shooting an impressive second round score of 1-over par 72. Junior Taylor Hall (Roswell, Ga./Blessed Trinity) finished in a tie for 53rd with a 19-over par 161.

Six Georgetown players competed in the tournament as individuals. Senior co-captain Trevor Matese (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) tied for 35th with an 11-over par 153. Junior John Olsen (Mahwah, N.J./Bergen Catholic) finished in 51st with a 17-over par 159 while junior Danny Hathway (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) finished in a tie for 53rd with a 19-over par 161. Senior Donald Thomas (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished in a tie for 61st posting a 22-over par 164. Freshman Justin Edwards (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) finished in 63rd with a 23-over par 165 while sophomore Brian Czarnecki (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) finished in a tie for 64th with a 24-over par 166.

The Members Club at Four Streams became the new home for the Hoya men's and women's golf programs during the 2006-07 school year.
