WASHINGTON (AP) - Jessie Sapp scored 11 points and Georgetown's defense forced 21 turnovers in a 57-47 victory over Rutgers on Tuesday night, ending the Hoyas' five-game losing streak.
Sapp, in a slump since mid-December, shot 4-for-5 from the field. Greg Monroe added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas, who took the lead for good with an 11-2 spurt late in the first half and pulled away with a 16-5 run after halftime.
The Hoyas (13-8, 4-6 Big East Conference) were in the Top 10 last month, but their longest skid since 2005 dropped them out of the rankings. Rutgers (10-13, 1-9) again proved the perfect salve: The Hoyas have won seven straight in the series.
Mike Rosario scored 20 points for Rutgers, which had Corey Chandler and Hamady Ndiaye back in the starting lineup. They were subs in Saturday's win over DePaul as punishment for being late for team functions.
