WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's golf team placed three individuals among the top-10 overall and shot a 13-over par 301 in the final round of play to win the NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate on Friday, held at the Pebblecreek Golf and Country Club in Tampa, Fla.
It is the third tournament win in program history for the Hoyas and the first since the team won two tournaments during the 2005-06 season.
"It feels good. You certainly hope for these wins, but you just never know when you'll get one," third-year Head Coach Patty Post said as she and her team prepared to fly back to the nation's capitol on Friday evening. "Winning is hard in golf, as it is in any sport, but we're really happy."
The Hoyas had been tied for first place in the 17-team field with Stetson after carding a 21-over par 309 in Thursday's first round, but the combined score of 301 in the final round of play gave Post her first career win as the head coach of the Blue and Gray.
"This was a pretty good field of teams playing here and it was above my expectations for the first time out this spring," Post said. "I wanted them to get a win like this and I certainly think they'll be a bit more confident as we move along this season."
The Hoyas were paced by senior Carly Hunt (Easton, Pa./Conestoga), who fired a 5-over par 149 and tied for fifth place in the individual field.
Senior Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) finished in sixth place, finishing with a 7-over par 151, while freshman Eunae Jo (Ridgewood, NJ./Ridgewood) tied for 10th place at 10-over par 154.
Freshman Joan Dulieu (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) fired a 3-over par 75 in the final round of play to finish at 12-over par 156 and sophomore Robyn English (Warwick, R.I./St. Mary Academy) finished at 22-over par 166.
Georgetown competes next at the William & Mary Invitational on March 21-22.
