WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program traveled to University Park, Pa., for the PSU Northeast Challenge, hosted by Penn State University at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. Three-time All-American Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time In the women's 800-meter run with a first-place time of 2:08.89.
Infeld's time was a meet record by more than three seconds as the previous record (2:12.06) was set by former Hoya and All-American Ashley Hubbard in 2007.
All-American Abigail Johnson (Willingboro, N.J./Milton Hershey [Pa.]) ran a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying time in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 54.74 to finish fourth overall. Following right behind was sophomore London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy) with a time of 55.33 for fifth place, qualifying her for both championships as well.
In the women's mile, sophomore Lauren Borduin (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) finished second overall with a time of 4:56.87, qualifying for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. Graduate student Lise Orgrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield) finished sixth (4:58.48) also qualified for both championships while senior Amanda Walsh (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) finished 10th (5:06.15) with a BE qualifying time.
Graduate student Nene Kamate finished fourth overall in the women's 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.62, qualifying for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. Finley ran a 8.61 in the preliminary round to also qualify for both championships, but did not compete in the finals. In the 200-metere dash, Kamate finished fourth overall with a time of 24:57 followed by freshman Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) in ninth (24.92) and senior Sarah Wernik (Florence, Mass./Northampton) in 14th (25.10) - all were BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying times.
Freshman Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) took third place overall in the women's 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:49.45, qualifying for both the BE and ECAC Championships while fellow freshman Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) ran a BE-qualifying time of 2:56.94 for sixth place.
In the relays, Ogrodnick joined junior Deidra Sanders (Memphis, Tenn./Eastern), Borduin and senior All-American Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) to take first place in the women's distance medley relay with a time of 11:46.68, an ECAC-qualifying time.
Finley, Kamate, Kimbers and Johnson ran an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:41.37 in the women's 4x400-meter relay to take third place. The Georgetown squad in the women's 4x800-meter relay ran an ECAC-qualifying time of 8:48.92 for second place overall.
Senior Alex Bean (Somers, N.Y./Somers) took first place in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.45, a meet record and good enough to qualify for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships. Following right behind was graduate student Alex Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) in second (1:51.47), also qualifying for both postseason championships.
Junior Toby Ulm (Marlborough, United Kingdom/St.John's School and Community College) finished first in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.38 followed by sophomore Austin Perron (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of Engineering and Science) in sixth place (48.95). Both qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships.
In the men's 1,000-meter run, senior Sandy Roberts (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) finished fifth with a time of 2:25.50 followed by senior Dan Leyh (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) in ninth (2:27.10) and graduate student Cabel Rosanelli in 14th (2:28.34) - all were BIG EAST and IC4A-qualifying times.
A trio of Hoyas qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the men's 60-meter hurdles as freshman Justin Crawford (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) finished second overall in the finals with a time of 8.09 followed by sophomore Biyerem Okengwu (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Township) in third (8.11) and sophomore Kamryn Austin (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) in fourth (8.16).
Freshman Kadeem Hunter (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) ran a BE- and IC4A-qualifying time in the men's 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.96 for fifth place. Hunter also finished fourth overall and qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.16 followed by freshman Christian Tobias in eighth place (22.54), a BE-qualifying time.
Sophomore Theon O'Connor (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) finished fifth overall (1:03.85) in the men's 500-meter with All-American Danny Harris (Deer Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) in eighth (1:04.54), both qualifying for the BE and IC4A Championships. Freshman James Farley (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) finished 13th (1:05.47) with a BE-qualifying time.
In the men's mile sophomore Mark Dennin (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyerstown) finished second with a BE- and IC4A-qualifying time of 4:12.19 followed by senior Levi Miller (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) in sixth (4:16.77) with a BE-qualifying time.
Junior James Grimes (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished third in the men's 3,000-meter run with an IC4A-qualifying time of 8:25.35.
In the men's distance medley relay, Dennin, graduate student Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake), Leyh and junior Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) finished second overall with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:09.23. In third, Miller, senior Chris Taylor, Rosanelli and Roberts ran an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:09.41.
The quartet of Harris, Perron, O'Connor and Ulm finished second in the men's 4x400-meter relay with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:14.74.
The Georgetown men's 4x800-meter relay squad took second place overall with an IC4A-qualifying time of 7:37.82.
The Hoyas will take the upcoming weekend off and return to action on Friday and Saturday, January 29-30 as they split sites between the Boston Terrier Invitational in Boston, Mass., and the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa.
