WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis squad dropped a match to the Syracuse University Orange (17-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) Friday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas fell 6-1 despite a number of close matches. Georgetown is now 3-9 overall and 1-5 in BIG EAST play.
The Blue & Gray lost all three doubles matches, but the pair of Victoria Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and Elizabeth Sullivan (Potomac, Md./National Cathedral School) managed to make it close falling 8-3 at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, No. 2 Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) was the lone winner for the Hoyas defeating Emily Harman. Greco lost the first set 6-3, but rallied to win the second 6-3 and the tiebreaker 12-10. At No. 5 singles, Alex Sebia (Plains, Pa./Scranton Prep) lost two incredibly close sets to Simone Kalhorn 7-6 (6), 7-5.
The Hoyas will host Howard University in nonconference play on Tuesday at 2 p.m., at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
