WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's and women's tennis squads will co-host the Georgetown Classic this Friday and Saturday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas will welcome five men's teams and two women's squads to the courts marking the only home event for either team this fall.
Squads from The University of Pennsylvania, Howard University, George Washington University, James Madison University and Lehigh University will all be competing on the men's side. This marks the first of three fall matches for the men who will also compete at the Navy Invitational and ITA Regionals.
Recently, Bryan Miller (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) and Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) were named co-captains for a veteran squad which returns a number of players from last year's trip to the BIG EAST Championship. The pair went 7-11 last season at No. 1 doubles and Bruhn was an impressive 7-4 at No. 5 singles.
On the women's side, Howard and the University of Maryland will be in the mix as GU looks to build upon success from last weekend's trip to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) advanced to the championship of the B2 flight and the duo of Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and Stephanie Wetmore (Mississaga, Ontario/Appleby College) went to the semifinals.
The men's draw will begin at 10 a.m., and the women's draw is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
