WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Golf Coach Katie Brophy announced today that Viktoria Lager will be joining the Hoyas women's golf program for the 2012-13 academic year after transferring to the Hilltop from Oklahoma University.
Lager was a member of the Oklahoma team that won the Big 12 Conference Championship this year. The freshman, who made the Dean's honor roll and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, competed in one tournament during the fall season for the Sooners, tying for 86th place at the Susie Maxwell
"Viktoria is a phenomenal person and talented player who will be a great addition to our team on the Hilltop," Brophy said. "Her experience will add great value to our program, and I know that everyone here is excited to welcome her. She had a great experience competing at a high level program and her success there, and in the classroom, will serve her well at Georgetown."
Prior to college, Lager played in the top-10 of six tournaments on the Future Collegians World Tour between 2007 and 2010 and she won four events on the International Junior Golf Tour. She won two tournaments and posted four top-three finishes on the Skandia Tour in Sweden in 2009 and 2010, won the Junior Golf America Masters in 2010, posted two top-10 finishes during American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) competition in 2010 and 2011 and won 2011 Jasna Polana Club Championship.
A native of Philadelphia, Lager went to the West Florida Christian School and also attended the David Leadbetter Golf Academy and the Tim Sheredy Golf Institute in Sarasota, Fla.
Georgetown posted three top-10 finishes in five tournaments during the spring season and had six top-10 showings during the 2011-12 season.
