Women's Golf Announces Schedule for 2012-13 Season

June 5, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Golf Coach Katie Brophy announced the team's schedule for the 2012-13 academic year, starting with four tournaments in the fall and concluding with six tournaments in the spring, including the team's annual Hoya Invitational as well as trips to Florida and Arizona.

Brophy, who recently completed her first season as head coach, led the Hoyas to three top-10 finishes in five tournaments during the spring season and had six top-10 showings during the 2011-12 season.

"This is a challenging schedule for what will be a very young team," Brophy said. "It's going to be a great experience for these young women to see what the best teams in the country do to prepare and I'm confident we're going to have some success along the way."

The Hoyas open the 2012-13 season on Sunday, Sept. 9, competing in the Golfweek Preview, a showcase event in Pawleys Island, S.C. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs through Tuesday, Sept. 11 and features 12 teams.

Georgetown will play at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 and will then play at the Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa. from Friday, Sept. 28 to Sunday, Sept. 30. The fall season closes with a trip to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Lehigh Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 21 and Monday, Oct. 22

The Hoyas will play in six events during the spring season, with the first three involving two trips to Florida and one to Arizona.

On Monday, February 4, the Blue & Gray begin play in the Hurricane Invitational. The 36-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Last year, rising junior Alice Choi (Whitestone, N.Y./Bayside) shot a 4-over par 75 in the final round and finished in third place (12-over par 225) to lead the team to an eighth place among 16 teams.

The next three events on the team's schedule will be first-time events for Georgetown, starting with the Central District Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in Parrish, Fla. on Monday, Feb. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 19. After a couple of weeks off, the team will play in the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame in Tempe, Ariz. from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10. The third event is the Briar's Creek Invitational, being hosted by the College of Charleston in John's Island, S.C. on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26.

Georgetown will host the Hoya Invitational on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 8 at the team's home course, The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md.

The regular season concludes with the BIG EAST Championship in Orlando, Fla., being held from Sunday, April 21 to Tuesday, April 23.
