WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's tennis team played on Sunday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Courts against Queens College, who narrowly defeated the Hoyas, 4-3. It was Georgetown's first dual match of the fall season and first match since they hosted the Georgetown Classic from Sept. 20-22.
Georgetown's senior co-captain Kelly Comolli won the number one match, 6-1; 6-2, over Queens College junior Yevgeniya Plevako from Astana, Kazakhstan.
Taylor Perz lost the #5 slot match to Queens College sophomore Darby Brandon. Perz grabbed the first set 6-4, but then lost the final two sets, 6-3; 6-2. "[Taylor] Perz wins 90% of those matches," Head Coach Gordie Ernst said. "She just lost that match right at the end."
The Hoyas won the doubles point when pairs of Sophie Panarese/Sophia Barnard and Mimi Lynham/Taylor Perz won their matches, 8-3 and 8-6, respectively.
"Queens College plays a lot of matches, this is their time," Coach Ernst said. "We just have to play more matches and get ready for our next tournament."
