Alec May Named to Patriot League All-Academic Team

Nov. 26, 2014

WASHINGTON - Senior defensive end Alec May (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip) was named to the Football Academic All-Patriot League Team for the second consecutive year, when the league office made the announcement on Wednesday.

May, an economics major, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.557 and is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, considered the "Academic Heisman," awarded by the National Football Foundation.

"It's a big honor to be recognized for my work in the classroom," May said. "My parents have always encouraged me to do the best I can academically and Coach Sgarlata emphasizes how important academics are too with his "4 for 40" theme."

A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, May becomes the first Hoya to earn Academic All-Patriot League honors twice. He also excelled on the field during the 2014 season, breaking Georgetown's single-season sacks record by leading Division I FCS and the PL with 16.5. His 20.5 tackles for loss led the league and was sixth in the FCS, while his 89 tackles was the most by a defensive lineman. He was named First Team All-Patriot League on Tuesday and is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award for the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS.

May served as a team captain and was also instrumental in many of the Georgetown University football program's community outreach programs. He has been active with Friends of Jaclyn, while also taking part in NBC Washington's Wednesday's Child on two separate occasions. He also organized a group of Georgetown student-athletes to participate in DC Reads during the 2013-14 academic year.
