Nick Alfieri Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

Sept. 15, 2014

WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Nick Alfieri (Portland, Ore./Jesuit/The Hotchkiss School) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week when the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon. Alfieri finished with a season-high 14 tackles and one interception in the Georgetown University football team's (1-2, 0-0 Patriot League) 27-7 victory over Marist on Saturday.

Alfieri helped lead a Georgetown defensive charge that limited Marist to just 140 yards of total offense, eight first downs and forced three turnovers to help Head Coach Rob Sgarlata earn his first victory.

"Everyone was flying around to the ball on Saturday," Alfieri said following Saturday's game. "We had worked all week on correcting things and paying attention to detail. The defense is starting to mesh and gel and we're all starting to trust each other."

Alfieri, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection in 2013 and 2014 Preseason All-Patriot League selection is receiving his first weekly honor. He is currently second in the Patriot League averaging 11.7 tackles per game.

Alfieri and the Hoyas return home to host Brown University (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League) on Saturday, September 20. Saturday is also the 50th Anniversary of the return of football to the Hilltop. For more information on the anniversary or to purchase tickets, please visit www.WeAreGeorgetown.com.
