Jan. 26, 2015 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer freshman midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac)was named the 2014 Soccer America Men's Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the publication's Men's All-Freshman First Team earlier this month. Additionally, sophomore defender Joshua Yaro (Santa Barbara, Calif./Cate School) was named to the Soccer America Men's MVPs First Team.
Basuljevic was already selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com's Freshman First Team after an outstanding campaign. He was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Squad. Basuljevic was Georgetown's second-leading scorer with six goals in 22 games with 14 starts to his credit. He had a team-best four game winners on the season including two in BIG EAST Conference play to tie him for first in the league. He was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Oct. 27 and earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 10.
Yaro, a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, was named First Team All-American and First Team All-Great Lakes Region to complete his season. He was also named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the year, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year was also a unanimous selection to the first team.
Yaro was a key part of Georgetown's 10 shutouts this past season, including a league-best six in the nine conference games played. He also got into the action on offense with an assist coming at Princeton. Yaro earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on three occasions this season and was a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
His sophomore year was a breakout campaign with conference, regional and national honors, marking firsts in his career.
The Hoyas finished the season 14-4-5 on the season and advancing to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals before failing to advance against eventual national champ Virginia.
Georgetown will open the spring schedule against Major League Soccer's reigning champion, the LA Galaxy, on February 3.
