Women's Golf Recognizes Postseason Award Winners

April 29, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team and Head Coach Katie Brophy celebrated its 2014-15 season on Monday night with a brief gathering in the District.

The Hoyas finished the 2014-15 season, the most successful in program history, with a second place showing at the BIG EAST Championships earlier this month.

In addition to reflecting on the most successful season in program history, Brophy recognized several individual award winners.

A pair of freshmen were award winners, with Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass. /The Taft School) named the team's Most Valuable Player and classmate Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) being recognized as the team's most improved player from the fall to the spring campaign. Junior co-captain Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) was selected as the recipient of the Miss Georgetown Award, presented to the golfer who most exemplifies the traits of a Georgetown golfer.

Brophy and the program also recognized its lone senior, Viktoria Lager (Princeton, N.J./West Florida Christian School), who graduates on May 16 with a degree in marketing and management.

The Blue & Gray won a pair of tournaments during the season and finished among the top-five teams five times, including four during the spring season.

The team's first win came at the University of Delaware's Blue Hen Invitational. Junior Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) finished in fourth place, while Eleey and Lee tied for fifth place, freshman Lauren Gros (Windermere, Fla./Windermere Prep) placed seventh and junior Liz DiVincentis (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) placed 11th overall.

The Hoyas also won their own tournament, the Hoya Invitational. Eleey posted a score of 14-over par 230 and tied for first place but lost in a playoff. Boydston placed sixth, Gros tied for ninth, Lee tied for 19th and sophomore Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China/Foshan No. 2 Middle School) tied for 29th place.

The team posted top-five finishes in two other tournaments during the spring, leading after the first day of play at the Thunderbird Invitational before finishing in fourth place. Eleey, with a 69, and Gros, with a 72, each posted their best rounds as collegiate golfers, while Eleey's score of 69 tied the school record for low round.

Prior to the conference championship, the Blue & Gray tied for fourth, and beat eventual BIG EAST champion Seton Hall, at the Pirate Invitational, held at Trump National in New Jersey. Schmitt led the way for the team with a sixth place finish.

At the BIG EAST Championship, Georgetown finished in second place, one shot behind Seton Hall. Eleey won the individual championship, while Lee finished in third place and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Other highlights included the team's record-breaking round of 289 during the third round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge, breaking the school single-season record of 295. Boydston led the way with a 1-under par 71, while Eleey posted an even park 72 and Gros and Lee each recorded birdies on the final hole for scores of 1-over par 73.
