Georgetown has Three Named Academic All-Patriot League

Nov. 23, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team had three student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Wednesday. Senior defensive end Phil Novacki (Great Falls, Va./Langley) earned his second selection on the academic team while junior wide receiver Jim McLaughlin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and junior defensive back Jelani Williamson (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) were both selected for the first time.

The 11-member all-academic team was selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors who could not cast a vote for their own student-athletes. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must be at least a sophomore standing at his institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

Novacki, who was also a member of the 2015 all-academic team, is a finance major in the McDonough School of Business. He finished his senior season with a team-high 6.5 sacks and ranked second with 7.5 TFL to go along with 37 tackles, including 19 solo takedowns. He also contributed two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four quarterback hurries. Novacki earned a Patriot League Honorable Mention selection on Sept. 12 after Georgetown's win at Marist.

McLaughlin is a junior in the Georgetown College with an economics major and a business administration minor. He had a strong season for the Hoyas, ranking fourth on the team with 31 receptions and 234 receiving yards. McLaughlin was GU's second-leading receiver in Patriot League games, catching 20 passes for an average of 32.2 yards per game. Against Bucknell on Nov. 12, he set career highs with six catches and 77 receiving yards while also scoring his first-career touchdown.

Williamson is also a junior economics major in the College. He finished tied for the league high with four interceptions, all coming a in a six-game span. Williamson also ranked eighth on the Hoyas with 50 tackles, 25 of the solo variety, and chipped in a pass breakup and a forced fumble. He was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10 after intercepting a pass and making six tackles against Princeton, and earned an honorable mention selection on Oct. 3 after recording an interception and a career-high 10 tackles at Harvard.

Georgetown finished the 2016 season with a 3-8 overall record. On Tuesday, six Hoyas earned seven spots on All-Patriot League Teams. Senior defensive lineman Hunter Kiselick (Nutley, N.J./Bergen Catholic) earned selections on both the first team, as a special team-non specialist, and the second team as a defensive lineman. Additionally, senior placekicker Henry Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason), senior linebacker Leo Loughrey (Glenshaw, Pa./Central Catholic), sophomore linebacker J'V'on Butler (Melbourne, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy), senior punter Harry McCollum (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) and freshman defensive lineman Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) all earned spots on the second team.
