Sept. 5, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University football senior quarterback Tim Barnes (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) and senior punter Harry McCollum (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) were both named Patriot League Honorable Mentions on Monday, recognizing their efforts during GU's 38-14 season-opening win over Davidson College on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.
Barnes, making his first start at quarterback since his freshman season, set career highs in passing yards (215), completions (26) and touchdowns passes (4). He also rushed five times for 12 yards, helping lead a Hoya offense that totaled 368 total yards and 23 first downs. He threw two touchdown passes to Justin Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour), connecting from seven and five yards. Barnes also found Justin Harrell (New Orleans, La./Newman) for a 2-yard touchdown pass and launched a 33-yard strike to Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md./Northwest).
McCollum was needed just three times on Saturday, but made the most of it, totaling 135 yards for a 45.0 yards per punt average. He launched a 51-yard punt in the first quarter, helping the Blue & Gray gain the advantage of field position in a scoreless first quarter. McCollum also had a 49-yard punt for a touchback in the fourth quarter.
The Hoyas moved to 1-0 on the season with their fifth-straight victory over the Wildcats. It was the first win in a season opener under Head Coach Rob Sgarlata.
GU will play its first road game next weekend, traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Marist College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Last year, Georgetown defeated the Red Foxes, 34-7, in its home opener.
