Hoyas Host Lafayette Saturday in Homecoming Matchup

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team will return home this weekend to take on Lafayette College in a Homecoming matchup on Saturday, Nov. 4. Kickoff at Cooper Field is set for 2 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network, with Jeremy Huber calling the play-by-play and Emory Hunt and Mike Nebrich providing color analysis. Last Time Out
The Hoyas trailed by just three entering the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell, 24-10, at Holy Cross last Saturday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. Max Edwards (Germantown, Md./Georgetown Prep) finished with five catches for a team-high 84 yards and Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) hauled in seven catches for 75 yards.

David Akere (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) led the defense with a season-high 12 tackles. Wesley Bowers (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) finished with a career-high nine tackles, tying with Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine/Loomis Chaffee) for the second most on the team.

Hoya Leaders
Dereus continues to be a dynamic threat for Georgetown's offense. He ranks second in the Patriot League in receiving yards (606) and yards per game (75.8), third in touchdown receptions (5) and fourth in yards per catch (17.8).

In three and a half games since taking over at quarterback, Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek/Arizona) has passed for 842 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for four more scores.

Akere leads the Hoyas and is fourth in the conference with 72 tackles. He currently ranks seventh all-time in program history with 247 career tackles. He is tied for seventh in the league with teammate Brown with two interceptions.

Isaac Ellsworth (Bedford, Texas/Euless Trinity) is second in the Patriot League, averaging 25.1 yards per kickoff return, and is third with 102.3 all-purpose yards per game. Brad Hurst (Helen, Ga./White County) ranks third in the conference with 42.1 yards per punt, and has recorded 17 touchbacks on kickoffs, the second most in the league.

About the Matchup
Georgetown is 7-13 all-time against Lafayette, and the Leopards have won three of the past five meetings, with Georgetown's last victory coming in 2015 at home, 38-7. In last season's matchup, the Hoyas fell in Easton, Pa., 17-3. Alex Valles (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) finished with 65 yards rushing and 18 yards receiving, while Jethro Francois (Winter Haven, Fla./Victory Christian Academy) led the defense with 10 tackles

Scouting Lafayette
The Leopards, who are coming off of their bye week, sit at 2-6 on the season, but hold a 2-1 record in Patriot League action. They opened league play with wins over Holy Cross (10-7) and Fordham (14-10) before falling to Bucknell in their most recent game. Freshman Sean O'Malley has completed nearly 62 percent of his passes, throwing for 1,628 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also leading the league with 12 interceptions. Rocco Palumbo has been O'Malley's favorite target, catching 39 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns -- all of which are team highs. Lafayette's offense ranks last in the Patriot League in both yards per game (229.6) and points per game (11.8).

The defense is led by Brandon Bryant, who ranks second in the country with 109 tackles. Phillip Parham has a league-high five interceptions, which also ranks second nationally.

Looking Ahead
Georgetown will travel to Bucknell next weekend for its final road game of the season. Kickoff at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium is scheduled for noon on Saturday, Nov. 11.
