Women's Tennis Competes in Jack Kramer Invitational

WASHINGTON - Five members of the Georgetown women's tennis team competed in the Jack Kramer Collegiate Tournament over the weekend in Palos Verdes, Calif. Three players advanced to the round of 32, while junior Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) fell short in the round of 16.

Nakagawa defeated her opponent Camila Tumosa from Loyola Marymount University, 6-1, 6-3, but fell in the round of 16 to fourth-seeded Elizaveta Volodko from UC Santa Barbara. Seniors Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont/San Diego) both lost in the round of 32 to their opponents. Spinosa fell short to second-seeded Dzina Milovanovic from Pepperdine, 6-1, 7-6.

In doubles play, the pair of Marx and Nakagawa defeated a pair from LMU by a score of 8-4. They fell to the second-seeded duo from UC Santa Barbara in the round of 32, 8-3. Senior Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) and Spinosa paired up as well, but lost 8-7 to a duo from Brigham Young University in the first round.

The Hoyas will return to action in January in the VCU 4+1 Invitational.
