WASHINGTON - Georgetown University football sophomore defensive lineman Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) was named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team, as announced on Thursday. To be eligible for this honor, which recognizes the top FCS players on the East Coast, a student-athlete must have been an all-conference first team selection.

Tate, who was named to the All-Patriot League First Team following the season started all 11 games in 2017 and led a stout defensive line with 69 tackles, which ranked third on the team. He led the entire defense with 12.5 tackles-for-loss (TFL) and 5.0 sacks, while adding team highs of four quarterback hurries and three fumble recoveries. He also had an interception and forced two fumbles. Tate tied for the Patriot League lead with two defensive touchdowns, scoring on a fumble return at Princeton and returning his first career interception in the season finale against Colgate.

The sophomore earned weekly honorable mention three times this season, and his All-Patriot League selection was his second in as many years after being named as a special teams non specialist in 2016 when he blocked three punts.

The Hoyas concluded the 2017 season with a 1-10 overall record. Five Hoyas were selected to All-Patriot League postseason teams. Freshman linebacker Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) joined Tate on the All-Patriot League First Team, while senior defensive back David Akere (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron), senior running back Isaac Ellsworth (Bedford, Texas/Euless Trinity) and sophomore wide receiver Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) all earned their first career selections to the second team.
