Georgetown to Host Harvard at RFK Stadium

Aug. 1, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Athletics Department has partnered with Events DC to host Georgetown football's regular-season, nonconference game against Harvard University at Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Stadium on September 30. Kickoff at the historic D.C. sports venue is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity for our student-athletes to play in historic RFK Stadium against a quality Ivy League opponent in Harvard University," Georgetown Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said. "We constantly talk about Defending the District and are committed to recruiting the local student-athletes from the talent-rich DMV area. This game will provide an incredible opportunity to showcase our program while competing against one of the top academic and athletic programs in the country. I am looking forward to seeing the local and national Hoya football family at RFK for the game."

This year will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two teams, with Harvard having won the previous three matchups in each of the past three seasons. The Hoyas are 3-5 against opponents from the Ivy League under Sgarlata, including a 2-2 mark in games played in Washington, D.C.

The Blue & Gray battled hard in last year's meeting between two undefeated teams. However, despite a late comeback attempt, the Hoyas fell to the then-No. 19/25 Crimson, 31-17, in cold and rainy conditions in Cambridge, Mass. Senior running back Isaac Ellsworth (Bedford, Texas/Euless Trinity) finished with 109 rushing yards and 203 all-purpose yards, including a 74-yard rushing touchdown, while junior wide receiver Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md./Northwest) caught six passes for 101 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown. Georgetown's defense forced four turnovers, including two interceptions in the end zone, and Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) blocked a punt on special teams.

Tickets for September 30 are now available via Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000). All seating is general admission. Discounts are available for youth (ages 3-17) and members of the military; children two and under do not require a ticket for entry. More information about parking and tailgating will be available in the coming weeks.

"Events DC is excited to host two storied institutions in Georgetown and Harvard at RFK Stadium this fall," said Erik A. Moses, senior vice president and managing director, Events DC Sports, Entertainment and Special Events. "The historic stadium provides an enhanced platform for these student-athletes to have an experience that will last a lifetime and we're happy to partner with Georgetown and Harvard to create memories for the players, students, alumni and fans."

Managed by Events DC, RFK Stadium has been D.C.'s premier multi-purpose stadium since it opened in 1961. The current home of Major League Soccer's D.C. United, RFK Stadium has also served as the home to the National Football League's Washington Redskins and Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals. The historic venue has been home to countless collegiate football games including George Washington University in the 1960's, the Howard-Hampton University rivalry in the 90's, the Military Bowl and AT&T Nation's Football Classic. Additionally, the United States Men's National Team has played 27 soccer games at RFK Stadium, more than any other venue in the world.
