WASHINGTON– Georgetown University field hockey drops to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the BIG EAST after being defeated by No. 19 Liberty, 2-1, on Friday afternoon. Both teams entered the game looking for the 10th win of the season but it was Liberty that clinches the match to remain unbeaten in the BIG EAST. Liberty moves to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the BIG EAST.
The lone goal of the first half came 3:38 into the contest as forward Moniek van Aarle scored on the Flames' second shot of the game. Liberty outshot Georgetown, 9-3 in the half with shots from
Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur),
Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City) and Nell Van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier).

Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) made three saves in the half.
The GU defense held the Flames to one goal until midfielder Abby Julius converted off of Liberty's fifth corner of the match in the 57th minute. With just over one minute remaining in the contest,
Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy) scored a late goal assisted by Bruno to deny the Flames the shutout. Weets finished the day with eight saves.
