Box Score EASTON, Pa. – The Georgetown University football team held Lafayette without a touchdown, winning its second-straight road game, 13-6, in a Patriot League game on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Leopards fall to 1-5 and 0-2 in Patriot League action.
Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) completed 11 passes for 73 yards, while also rushing for a pair of touchdowns.
Jackson Saffold (Orlando, Fla. / Timber Creek) led the ground game with 43 rushing yards, while
Herman Moultrie III (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) added 40.
Max Edwards (Germantown, Md. / Georgetown Prep) led the receiving corps with four catches for 40 yards.
Xavier Reddick (Powder Springs, Ga. / McEachern) led the defense with eight tackles while
Ramon Lyons (Orlando, Fla. / Ocoee / West Orange) and
Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La. / St. Augustine / Loomis Chaffee) each had seven. Lyons also had three pass breakups and one of Georgetown's three interceptions on the day.
Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga. / Covenant Academy) had two of GU's four sacks.
After a scoreless first quarter that was dominated by each team's defense, the Hoyas came up with a big turnover on the first play of the second quarter.
Wes Bowers (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) tipped a third down pass that
Leon Agee (Laurel, Miss. / Robert S. Alexander) picked off for his second interception of the season, setting up the offense deep in Lafayette territory.
Seven plays later, Johnson ran the ball in from 6-yard line for his first rushing touchdown of the season. A two-point conversion attempt failed, keeping the score 6-0 with 11:42 left in the quarter.
After a quick Lafayette possession, including a Tate sack to the 1-yard line, the Hoyas took over at midfield. A 10-play drive, including 25 rushing yards by Moultrie, led to another Johnson rushing touchdown, this time from just one yard out to give GU a 13-0 lead.
The Leopards got on the board with a 40-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter as the Hoyas took a 13-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was again a defensive struggle as neither team could score. Lyons came up with his interception on a deep ball as Lafayette tried to throw it to the end zone.
On the first play from scrimmage in the fourth quarter, Brown got into the backfield and forced a fumble that
Owen Kessler (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) recovered. While the Hoyas couldn't score, they won the battle of the field position as
Brad Hurst (Helen, Ga. / White County) continuously pinned Lafayette deep with his punts.
Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Gateway) helped seal the victory with a highlight-reel interception with three minutes remaining. Lafayette kicked a 40-yard field goal with 21 seconds remaining, but the Hoyas recovered the ensuing onside kick to finish off the win.
The Hoyas will return home to Cooper Field for the first time in nearly a month, hosting Lehigh in a Family Weekend matchup on the Hilltop.
