WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown University football student-athletes have earned Patriot League Honorable Mention selections, as announced by the league office on Monday. Junior quarterback
Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) and senior
Ramon Lyons (Orlando, Fla. / Ocoee / West Orange) both earned the honor for their performances in GU's 13-6 win at Lafayette on Saturday.
Johnson scored both of Georgetown's touchdowns on Saturday, rushing in from the 6- and 1-yard line. Both scores came in the second quarter as the Hoyas opened a 13-3 lead at halftime. Johnson also completed 11 passes for 73 yards.
Lyons had one of GU's three interceptions on the day, while also adding three pass breakups and tying for second on the team with seven tackles. He helped lead a defense that forced four turnovers and held Lafayette without a touchdown. Lyons came up with his interception in the third quarter as Lafayette tried to throw it to the end zone to cut into GU's lead. Georgetown is now tied for the FCS lead with 13 interceptions on the season.
This is the second honorable mention selection of the year for Johnson, and first for Lyons. The Blue & Gray have had eight named honorable mention this season.
The Hoyas will return home to Cooper Field for the first time in nearly a month, hosting Lehigh in a Family Weekend matchup on the Hilltop. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 and links to live stats and a video stream, via the Patriot League Network, will be available at GUHoyas.com.
