Georgetown Blanked by Rutgers, 7-0

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey team dropped to 9-4 after being defeated by No. 15 Rutgers, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey. With the win, Rutgers improved to 9-4 overall.
 
The Scarlet Knights opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Tayla Parkes chipped her shot past freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary). Under five minutes later, Rutgers' leading scorer Daphne Groothuis converted her shot on an awarded penalty stroke. 
 
Georgetown held Rutgers to two goals in the first half despite The Scarlet Knights outshooting the Hoyas, 12-1.
 
Rutgers tallied five goals in the second half, capitalizing on four goals in just over 10 minutes. Groothuis picked up two more goals in the half to give her three goals in the contest. Senior Linde van Schaik also tallied two goals in the second half.
 
Emily Fraser (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa), Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) and Ali Cronin (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) all tallied two shots each to lead Georgetown. Weets compiled nine saves in the match.
 
The Hoyas are back in action on Friday, Oct. 12, as they take on Liberty in their fifth BIG EAST contest in Lynchburg, Virginia at 4 p.m. The match will conclude the Blue & Gray's away schedule this season and the squad will return to Cooper Field on Sunday, Oct. 14.
