WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team had a pair of student-athletes recognized with Patriot League weekly awards on Monday, recognizing their efforts during GU's 14-3 win over Bucknell on Saturday. Sophomore linebacker
Xavier Reddick (Powder Springs, Ga. / McEachern) was named the defensive player of the week, while freshman running back
Herman Moultrie III (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) earned rookie of the week honors. With Saturday's win, the Hoyas moved to .500 on the season at 5-5 and improved to 4-1 in Patriot League play, their most conference wins since joining the Patriot League in 2001.
Reddick loaded the stat sheet with seven tackles, a sack, 2.0 tackles-for-loss (TFL), an interception and a forced fumble. He was second on the defense in tackles and had one of Georgetown's season-high seven sacks. His interception was his second of the season and GU's league-leading 16th of the year. Reddick's 2.0 TFL went for 15 yards, including a 14-yard sack on Bucknell's final play to seal the win.
Moultrie rushed for a career-high 135 yards on 22 carries, while also receiving one pass for 22 yards and a touchdown. It was Moultrie's first career 100-yard rushing game and his first career receiving score. He had runs of 14 and 30 yards before catching a short screen pass and weaving his way to the goal line for a 22-yard touchdown reception to give the Hoyas a 14-3 lead in the third quarter. Moultire is Georgetown's first 100-yard rusher since
Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) rushed for 131 yards at Bucknell last season
This is Reddick's first career weekly award, and the fourth defensive player of the week honor for the Hoyas this year. It is Moultrie's second rookie of the week award, and the third this season for the Blue & Gray. Overall, Georgetown has now earned eight player of the week awards and nine honorable mention selections.
The Hoyas will remain home at Cooper Field to close out the regular season next weekend, hosting Holy Cross in a 12:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Nov. 17. Georgetown will celebrate its 17-member senior class in an on-field pregame Senior Day ceremony.
The contest against Holy Cross is currently sold out. Visit WeAreGeorgetown.com/football closer to game day for updates on whether additional tickets will be made available on Saturday at Cooper Field.
