WASHINGTON –Georgetown University football sophomore defensive back
Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Gateway) was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Football Team on Thursday. The honor, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To qualify for the all-district teams, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a significant contributor on their team. The honor, which is the first of Wilson's career, now puts him on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. First-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later in December.
Wilson has appeared in all 10 games this season, ranking 11th on the defense with 32 tackles. He also has one of Georgetown's Patriot League-leading 16 interceptions, which ranks fourth in all of FCS, and is third on the Hoyas with five pass breakups. He recorded his interception in GU's 13-6 victory at Lafayette and tied a career high with seven tackles in Georgetown's 22-16 double overtime win over Lehigh. Wilson has been a mainstay on a GU defense that is among the national leaders in passing efficiency defense (2nd), sacks (12th), total defense (13th), rushing defense (15th) and scoring defense (15th).
Wilson has played in all 21 games in his career on the Hilltop. He has amassed 72 tackles with 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 0.5 sacks, an interception and eight pass breakups. He was named to the All-Patriot League First Team last season as a freshman, earning a spot as a special teams non-specialist. He was also selected to the preseason all-league team earlier this fall at the same position.
The Hoyas will remain home at Cooper Field to close out the regular season next weekend, hosting Holy Cross in a 12:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Nov. 17. Georgetown will celebrate its senior class in an on-field pregame Senior Day ceremony.
The contest against Holy Cross is currently sold out. Visit WeAreGeorgetown.com/football closer to game day for updates on whether additional tickets will be made available on Saturday at Cooper Field.
