Hoyas Come Up Short in Regular Season Finale Against Holy Cross

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team forced six turnovers, including four interceptions, but fell 32-31 on Senior Day to Holy Cross in Saturday's season finale at Cooper Field. The Hoya defense also allowed a total of six yards rushing and had four sacks on the day. With the loss, the Blue & Gray fall to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Crusaders improve to 5-6 on the year and 4-2 in the Patriot League.
 
Defensively, Wes Bowers (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) led the way with nine total tackles and added two interceptions while Owen Kessler (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) pitched in 2.5 sacks that each resulted in big yardage losses.

Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) got the scoring going for the Hoyas with a touchdown run just three minutes into the game. Johnson finished with 80 yards passing and 33 yards on the ground. Max Edwards (Germantown, Md. / Georgetown Prep) showed off his athleticism with a 52-yard catch for a touchdown that made it 14-5. Edwards appeared to be tackled on the play, but was able to keep his balance and scamper his way into the end zone for the score.

50 seconds after Edward's score, Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Gateway) came up with Georgetown's second interception of the day. He returned it 12 yards to the 18-yard line before pitching it back to Ramon Lyons (Orlando, Fla. / Ocoee / West Orange) who weaved his way to the goal line for the touchdown. Oliver Hill's (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Deerfield Academy) PAT gave GU a 21-5 lead with 10:43 left in the second quarter. 

Hill extended the lead to 24-5 with a 22-yard field goal just a minute before halftime.  
 
Bowers came up this his second interception of the game five minutes into the third quarter, returning it 20 yards for GU's second defensive touchdown fo the game to make it 31-5. 

The defensive unit was able to hold the Crusaders to just five points well into the second half. After the collection of interceptions and defensive touchdowns, the Hoyas were up 31-12 at the end of the third quarter. Holy Cross clawed its way back with a pair of touchdowns on blocked punts before scoring the winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining.

Despite the loss for the Blue & Gray, Georgetown still recorded a program-best four wins in conference play. With five wins overall, the Hoyas finish with their most wins in program history since 2012.
