WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman guard
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference Monday. Additionally, senior center
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week.
Both Akinjo and Govan helped to secure a 76-73 overtime win vs. University of South Florida at the Montego Bay Convention Centre as part of the Jamaica Classic on Sunday. Akinjo hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 63 to send the game into overtime and Govan contributed five of the 13 overtime points for Georgetown. Akinjo finished with 14 points and 5 assists and Govan added a game-high 27 points, six rebounds and two blocks against the Bulls.

Patrick Ewing said, "Both Jessie and James made great plays down the stretch and as a whole, everyone helped us to the victory."
For the week, Akinjo averaged 34.3 mpg, 14.3 ppg and 4.7 apg in three contests. He led the team with a career-high 19 points, seven assists and three rebounds in 36 minutes to help the Hoyas with an 88-80 win at Illinois Tuesday night in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
Govan averaged 35.7 mpg, 19.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg in three games last week. He led the team in scoring in two of the three games. For his efforts, the senior center was named to the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic All-Tournament Team following the final game on Sunday.
The Hoyas return home to the friendly confines of Capital One Arena on Saturday, November 24 to welcome the Campbell University Camels. The game will be shown on FSN and tipoff at the Blue & Gray's downtown home is set for noon. The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season on the call.
