WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Women's Golf Head Coach
Kate Schanuel has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI). The trio, who hail from three different states, will join the Hoyas for the 2019-20 season as members of the Georgetown Class of 2023.
"We are so excited for Esther, Dana and Lauren to join our program," Schanuel said. "They each have a strong academic background, are leaders within their high schools and community and have competed at very high levels in their junior golf careers. They will have an immediate impact next fall."
Dana Choi
Los Angeles, Calif. / University HS
Four-year member of the University High School golf team, serving as a team captain as a senior … Placed fourth individually at the 2017 California State Championship with a score of 74, earning all-league honors … Named all-league and all-county in 2018 … Placed second individually at the league finals in both 2017 and 2018 … Participated in three-consecutive league championships (2016-18) … Carded a nine-hole average of 37.1 in 2018 … In the classroom, was a recipient of the AP Scholar Award and a member of the National Honor Society.
Lauren May
Austin, Texas / Westlake
Four-year member of the Westlake High School golf team, serving as a team captain as a senior … Named to the 2018 all-district first team, helping Westlake win the 6A University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Championship … Also led Westlake to state runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2017 … As a senior, had a scoring average of 75.6 with a low round of 70 … Over the summer, had a top-10 finish in the sectional qualifier for the US Women's Amateur Championship as well as a top-10 finish at the AJGA Championship where she shot a career-best 68 in the first round … Ranked as the 49th-best player in the 2019 class by Golfweek … In the classroom, earned three-straight all-district academic honors (2016-18) and all-region academic honors (2018).
Esther Park
Wilmington, Del. / Charter School of Wilmington
Four-year member of the Charter School of Wilmington golf team, serving as a team captain since her sophomore season … Won the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) individual state championship as a sophomore in 2017 … Led the Charter School of Wilmington to the 2017 USGA Women's State Team Championship, placing second individually … Won both the 2016 and the 2018 Delaware Women's Amateur …Recorded three top-three finishes at AJGA Junior tournaments in 2016-17 … In the classroom, was an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.
The Hoyas had two top-five and four top-10 finishes in five tournaments over the fall semester. The Blue & Gray will gear up in the spring semester as the team looks to defend its back-to-back BIG EAST Championships.
