WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-10) decision to visiting No. 19 Marquette in BIG EAST action on Saturday night. The Hoyas fall to 14-12 overall and 7-7 in league play.

A back-and-forth beginning of the opening set saw a 4-4 tie turn to a 12-7 Marquette (22-5, 12-2 BIG EAST) advantage before the Hoyas called a timeout. Georgetown kept pace, but was forced to burn its final timeout at 17-11 to slow the momentum. Out of the break, the Golden Eagles closed out the frame with an 8-3 spurt to win 25-14
Marquette opened the second set with four-straight points and led 8-2 before the Hoyas answered with a 4-1 run to make it 9-6. The Golden Eagles would push their lead to 16-11, forcing a Georgetown timeout, but the Blue & Gray came out of the huddle on a mission and posted a 6-3 run of its own to make it 19-17. Following an MU timeout, the Hoyas kept the drive going and tied things up at 21-21 and again at 23-23. Fending off a set point, GU once again knotted the score at 24-24 but couldn't close out the comeback attempt in the 26-24 set.
In the third, Georgetown took its first lead of the match courtesy of back-to-back service aces from
Margo Pivonka (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) to make it 3-1, but Marquette responded with an 8-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. Another 7-3 run gave MU a 16-8 advantage and the Golden Eagles closed out the match behind the serving of Anna Haak and Abby Julian to seal the victory.
Allie Barber and Hope Werch led Marquette with 13 kills each.
