WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad won its first BIG EAST match again against Xavier, 4-3. With the win, the Hoyas advance to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
In doubles, the Blue & Gray won two of the three matches. Seniors Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) started things off for GU after winning their doubles match, 6-3, against Gabriel Araujo and Jack Dykema. Junior Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and freshman Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) defeated Brett Winters and Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal, 7-6 (5).
In singles, freshman Mark Militzer won his first set against Jan Vrba, 6-4, and lost the second set, 2-6, but got the victory in the final set, 6-2. Junior Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) fell short in his first set against Araujo, 6-4, but won the last two sets, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) won both sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Matthew Graft.
The Georgetown men's tennis team will be back in action on March 5 when the team travels to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Florida Atlantic at 9 a.m.
