WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's golf team returns to action for the first time since October as it travels to participate in the 2018 FAU Spring Championship, hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida. The tournament is the first of four spring events for the Hoyas as they prepare for the BIG EAST Championship in April.
The three-day, 19-team event begins on March 23 at the 6,729-yard, par-70 Osprey Point Golf Course. Other teams participating include the host Owls, Bethune-Cookman, Canisius, UConn, DePaul, Florida Gulf Coast, Hartford, Hofstra, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, Lynn, Manhattan, Monmouth, Morehead State, Murray State, North Dakota State, Oakland and Stetson.
Georgetown finished in sixth place at last year's event, formerly known as the FAU Slomin Autism Championship, with a 28-over par 892. Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River) was GU's top finisher, placing seventh in a field of 74 golfers with a 3-over par 219.
The Hoyas are coming off a successful fall campaign, winning the 33rd Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate and posting three other top-6 finishes. Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons [Fla.]) paces the Blue & Gray with a 72.33 stroke average while Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean), Patrick DiPasquale (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and Blochtein all shot averages under 74. Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School), who has posted a pair of top-10 finishes this year, is hot on their trail with a 74.07 average.
Following the weekend's tournament in the Sunshine State, the Hoyas head to Greenville, North Carolina to take part in the ECU Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina on April 2-3.
