Football Announces 2018 Schedule

April 17, 2018

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2018 season. The Hoyas will play five home games at Cooper Field, including three of their six contests in Patriot League action. Starting times for all 11 games will be released at a later date.

"Our entire football program is extremely excited for our 2018 schedule," Sgarlata said. "Our out-of-conference schedule will present us with a few program firsts as we welcome Campbell to the Hilltop in our opener and travel the next week to Hanover, New Hampshire to play at Dartmouth. We will complete our out-of-conference schedule with games against Ivy League opponents Columbia and Brown. This tough early schedule will prepare us to compete in the ever-challenging Patriot League. We will continue to build on a very promising spring as we prepare for the 2018 campaign."

For the second-straight season, the Hoyas will open the season on the road, traveling to Poughkeepsie, New York for a matchup against Marist College on September 1. It will be the 21st meeting all-time with the Red Foxes, who are out of the Pioneer Football League (PFL). It will be the fifth-straight year the two teams have faced each other.

The following week, September 8, GU will play its home opener at Cooper Field, hosting Campbell University for the first time in program history. The Camels, which were in the PFL last season, are entering their first season in the Big South Conference. In the first meeting between the two teams last season, the Hoyas came away with a 16-10 victory in Buies Creek, North Carolina as Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) caught six passes for 114 yards and a score and Jelani Williamson (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) returned a fumble for a touchdown with 1:27 remaining to give GU the win.

Georgetown will begin a string of three-straight games against opponents from the Ivy League on September 15 when it makes the trip to Hanover, New Hampshire to play Dartmouth College. It will be just the third meeting between the two storied programs, and just the second since 1916. Each team has won a game in the series.

The Hoyas will play for the Lou Little Trophy on September 22 when Columbia University visits the Hilltop during Homecoming Weekend. It will be the fourth meeting in the 10-game series that the two programs will play for the Lou Little Trophy, named after the College Football Hall of Fame head coach who coached at both Georgetown and Columbia. The Blue & Gray have won two of the first three games, including a 17-14 victory the last time the game was in Washington, D.C. in 2015.

Georgetown will open a three-game road swing with a trip to Providence, Rhode Island for a contest against Brown University on September 29. It will be the final nonconference game of the season for GU. The Hoyas and Bears have met five times before, but not since 2014 when Georgetown rushed for 250 years and the defense held Brown without a touchdown and forced four turnovers in a 17-3 win on the Hilltop.

Patriot League play opens with two-straight road games as the Hoyas open October with contests at Fordham University (October 6) in the Bronx and Lafayette College (October 13) in Easton, Pennsylvania. The Blue & Gray will return to Cooper Field for the first time in nearly a month to host Lehigh University (October 20), before heading right back on the road the following week to close out the month of October with a matchup at Colgate University (October 27) in Hamilton, New York.

Following the squad's bye week, the Hoyas will finish the regular season with consecutive home games against Bucknell University (November 10) and the College of the Holy Cross (November 17). The contest against Holy Cross will serve as Georgetown's Senior Day.
