WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the addition of Arturo Gyles to the coaching staff. Gyles, who will work with the squad's defensive line, comes to the Hilltop after spending the past two seasons at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Coach Gyles to our football family," Sgarlata said. "He is very familiar with the Patriot League and was a standout player at Lehigh. Coach Gyles is an extremely energetic young coach with a passion for teaching. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to develop our talented defensive line group."

In his two seasons at Moravian, Gyles worked with both the team's outside linebackers and defensive line. In 2017, while working with the outside linebackers, Gyles helped lead the defense to rank fifth in the Centennial Conference, allowing 162.5 rushing yards per game. Gyles coached Steve Ewald, who ranked third in the Centennial Conference with 87 total tackles and 8.7 tackles per game.

He led the defensive line in his first season in 2016, coaching the Greyhounds to a top-three ranking in the conference with 127.8 rushing yards allowed per game.

A native of Adamstown, Maryland, Gyles is no stranger to the Patriot League as he attended Lehigh University where he was a defensive lineman from 2011-14. He played in 31 games over four years, including all 11 games in both his junior and senior seasons. He totaled 44 total tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.0 sacks in his career. As a senior in 2014, Gyles registered 20 tackles and 1.0 sack in 11 starts at nose guard, earning Lehigh's best defensive lineman award.

Gyles graduated from Lehigh in 2015 with a degree in global studies.

"I am blessed to have the opportunity to work for Georgetown University," Gyles said. "It is a privilege and honor to be a part of the Georgetown family. I look forward to working with the student-athletes and elevating the play on the defensive line. I am also excited to work with and learn from a tremendous coaching staff."
