WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown University football student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Patriot League Football Preseason All-League Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Junior defensive lineman
Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) and sophomore linebacker
Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway), who was selected at special teams as a non-specialist, were voted to the preseason team by a vote of the Patriot League coaches and football sports information directors.
Tate, who was also selected to the preseason team in 2017, has earned All-Patriot League postseason honors in each of his first two seasons on the Hilltop. After being named a special teams non-specialist as a freshman, Tate was selected to the first team last season as a defensive lineman. He started all 11 games in 2017 and led a stout defensive line with 69 tackles, which ranked third on the team. He led the entire defense with 12.5 tackles-for-loss (TFL) and 5.0 sacks, while adding team highs of four quarterback hurries and three fumble recoveries. He also had an interception and forced two fumbles. Tate tied for the Patriot League lead with two defensive touchdowns, scoring on a fumble return at Princeton and returning his first career interception in the season finale against Colgate.
Wilson, who joined Tate on the All-Patriot League First Team last year as a special teams non-specialist, was a force on both defense and specials teams in his freshman campaign, playing in all 11 games with six starts. He ranked 10th on the defense with 40 total tackles, and added 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sacks, three pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. He tied a career high with seven tackles against both Lafayette and Colgate, and recorded his first half sack in the season finale against the Raiders.
The Hoyas, who were picked to finish seventh in the league's preseason poll, open the 2018 season on Saturday, September 1 at Marist. Kickoff in Poughkeepsie, New York is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Blue & Gray will play its home opener at Cooper Field the following weekend, hosting Campbell on September 8 for a 12:30 p.m. matchup.
