Georgetown Defeated by Brown, 4-2

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey drops to 6-3 after being defeating by Brown, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. Brown moves to 3-5 overall.

Despite the Hoyas outshooting the Bears, 9-1, in the first half, the Bears managed to score first, giving them the 1-0 lead. Senior Rachel Lanoutte's shot was deflected by a GU defender and the Bears went up with 7 minutes remaining in the half.

With 23 seconds left to play, sophomore Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) converted on a penalty corner from sophomore Ali Cronin (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey). The assists were awarded to Cronin and junior Ashley Leverrett (Pasadena, Md. / Indian Creek).

Osborne led the team with four shots and junior Emily Fraser (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) registered two in the first half. Brown goalkeeper Katie Hammaker made four saves in the first 35 minutes of play.

Five minutes into the second half, the Hoyas took the lead off a shot from junior Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy). Just three minutes later, Brown equalized, 2-2, off a penalty corner. The Bears took the lead once again as they converted on an awarded penalty stroke with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Three minutes later, Brown stretched the lead by two as junior Corinne Condie scored her first of the season.

The score held at 4-2 for the remainder of the game and the Bears picked up their third win of the year.

Georgetown outshot Brown, 15-7. Freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) made one save in the contest while Hammaker made eight saves.

The Hoyas are back in action on Friday, Sept. 28 as they play their third BIG EAST contest against No. 11 Old Dominion at Cooper Field. Live stats and a live stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
