WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown University football seniors earned Patriot League Honorable Mention selections on Monday. Wide receiver
Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) and defensive back
Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La. / St. Augustine / Loomis Chaffee) both earned the honors for their performances in Georgetown's 23-15 setback to Columbia in Saturday's Homecoming contest.
Williams had career highs of seven catches and 121 receiving yards with a touchdown on Saturday. He had three catches for 82 yards in the fourth quarter as the Hoyas almost came back from a three-score deficit. Two of his receptions went for 33 and 20 yards on fourth down conversions, including his touchdown grab to bring GU within one possession midway through the fourth quarter. In the second quarter, Williams surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for his career and is now just 19 yards short of cracking Georgetown's career top 10. He now has 88 career receptions, ranking 10th in GU's record books.
Brown finished with a career-high 14 tackles on Saturday, leading three Hoya defenders who had at least 10 tackles. He led a GU defense that tied a season-high with three interceptions and only allowed Columbia 119 yards of total offense in the second half as Georgetown almost came back from a three-score deficit in the fourth quarter. Georgetown now leads the Patriot League and ranks third in FCS with eight interceptions on the season.
These are the fourth and fifth honorable mention selections for the Hoyas this season. It is Williams' first career honor and the second for Brown, who was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week earlier this month after Georgetown's 39-14 season-opening victory at Marist.
The Blue & Gray will embark on a three-game road swing, closing out nonconference play at Brown on Saturday, Sept. 29, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Providence, Rhode Island. Georgetown will then open Patriot League play with games at Fordham (Oct. 6, 1 p.m.) and at Lafayette (Oct. 13, 3:30 p.m.).
