WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team travels to Princeton, New Jersey this weekend, looking to defend its 2017 title at the Princeton Invitational. The two-day, two-round tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,100-yard Springdale Golf Club. Live scoring for the tournament will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas will tee off from the 10th hole at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Sunday's final round will have teams teeing off starting at 8:30 a.m. from both the first and 10th holes.
Georgetown will be part of a 12-team field that includes BIG EAST foe Seton Hall. The rest of the field consists of Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Navy, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Rollins, Yale and Youngstown State.
Last weekend, the Hoyas turned in a three-round score of 54-over par 918 to tie for eighth at the 16-team Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The host Nittany Lions (even-par, 864), who will be competing against GU this weekend, won the tournament via a tiebreaker over Washington. Senior
Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C. / Episcopal [Va.]) was GU's top finisher, turning in a three-round score of 9-over par 225 to tie for 29th overall.
Bogache will again lead Georgetown's lineup this weekend, followed by classmate
Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place). Junior
Kate Evanko (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville) will tee off in the third spot ahead of senior
Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) and junior
Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake Senior). Sophomore
Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest) will partake in her second tournament of the year, competing as an individual.
Last fall, the Blue & Gray carded a 41-over par 905, including an 8-over par 296 on Sunday to pull away and win the Princeton Invitational by 14 strokes over second-place Harvard. Senior
Jacquelyn Eleey (C'18) claimed the individual title, setting a program record with a 3-under par 213 to become the first Hoya to ever finish under par in a 54-hole tournament. Bogache, playing as an individual, placed fifth overall with an 8-over par 224 while Parsells also turned in a top-10 performance, finishing in a tie for sixth at 10-over par 226.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Hoyas will travel to the West Coast to compete in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington. The two-day, three-round tournament will be played Oct. 9-10 in Sammamish, Washington.
