WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University
Gridiron Club has a pair of new faces leading the way in 2018. Hoya football alums Hugh Golden (MSB'89) and Anthony DiTommaso (MSB'09) have stepped in this year as the club's new president and vice president, respectively.
"Anthony and I are really excited to work with Head Coach
Rob Sgarlata and the athletics department to strengthen the football program by encouraging private support and volunteer leadership from Hoyas across the country," said Golden, a four-year starter on the offensive line.
The mission of the Georgetown Gridiron Club is to enrich the football experience of the Georgetown community including student-athletes, alumni, students, parents, faculty, neighbors, fans and friends. The goal is to support current and future football program fundraising initiatives, provide mentoring for all players, enhance alumni and parent involvement, elevate the game-day experience, celebrate the rich traditions of Georgetown football and support priorities requested by the head football coach and athletic director.
When attending a Georgetown University football game, whether on the road or at home at Cooper Field, one thing Georgetown fans cannot miss is the presence of the Gridiron Club tailgate. However, it is Golden's and DiTomasso's objective to increase the club's visibility in regards to everything its members do behind the scenes.
"The Gridiron Club essentially works to accomplish three things," Golden said. "We put together events to support and also build community around football program, increase fundraising and membership as well as create a network of mentors for current and former Hoya football players.
"We are already increasing our presence on social media and on GUHoyas.com, as well as having created events such as pregame tailgates, an alumni event in New York City prior to the Fordham game, and a D.C. spring golf outing."
"I would first like to thank Scott Darby for all of his hard work," Sgarlata said. "Scott will continue to work to work on our Mentoring and Career Development initiatives so our current players will benefit from the players who came before them in our program.
"I would like to thank both Hugh Golden and Anthony DiTomasso for agreeing to serve as our new president and vice president, respectively. Georgetown is a special place as a result of the people who make up the community, and Hugh and Anthony will work to strengthen and develop the relationships within the Hoya football family. They are already hard at work and I look forward to working with them in the future."
