WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will continue BIG EAST Conference play at McDonough Arena this weekend hosting the Creighton University Bluejays at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Providence College Friars at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Hoyas are currently 9-11 on the season and 3-6 in league play. Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Ben Gordon-Goldstein and Monika Moore calling the action on Friday and Jeremy Huber and Hoya alum Monica McNutt calling Sunday's contest.
Last weekend the Hoyas had a tough road swing falling at St. John's (59-51) on Friday and at Seton Hall on Sunday (76-63). Against the Red Storm, senior guard
Brianna Jones (Babylon, N.Y. / North Babylon / Louisville) led the way with a career-high 14 points. She was joined in double figures by graduate student guard
Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard
Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) scored nine points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals. In the loss at The Hall, three Hoyas scored in double figures as Adomako led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. She also had five blocks and two steals. Graduate student
Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) added 18 points and three steals, while White scored 13 points to go along with seven assists and three steals.
GU has three players averaging double digits as Adomako and White lead the team with 15.5 and 15.4 ppg, respectively. Venson is third with 11.0 ppg. Adomako and White are averaging 7.8 and 7.7 rpg to rank first and second on the squad, White has a team-best 60 assists on the season as well as 48 steals, and Venson has 47 helpers to her credit. Adomako leads GU with 36 blocks, while junior forward
Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) is in second with 34 to her credit.
Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in blocks with 5.1 bpg. Adomako ranks fourth in the league in scoring, while White sits at fifth and Venson at 25th. Adomako is fifth in rebounding and White is sixth. White ranks third in the conference in steals, and Adomako is second in the league in blocks per game while Kelava sits right behind her at third.
Creighton is 10-10 on the season and 4-5 in BIG EAST Conference play. The squad is coming off of a 77-63 loss to Providence last weekend and looking to rebound after two-straight defeats. Three Bluejays are scoring in double figures with Audrey Faber leading the team with 17.2 ppg. Jaylyn Agnew is second averaging 11.8 ppg as well as a team-high 5.4 rpg.
Georgetown is 3-8 all-time against the Bluejays and 2-3 at home. In the meeting earlier this season, the Hoyas lost 65-38 as White was the long Hoya in double figures with 15 points and four rebounds. The last meeting at McDonough Arena was a 70-67 GU victory in 2018.
Cynthia Petke led the team in the win with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Providence is in the midst of a three-game win streak, having defeated Butler (74-68, 3OT), Xavier (71-58) and Creighton (77-63). It marks the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Friars have reeled off three-straight victories in conference play. The squad is 13-8 overall and 5-4 in league play. They are led by Jovana Nogic with 14.3 ppg and Maddie Jolin who is averaging 10.2 ppg.
The Hoyas are 34-29 all-time against the Friars and 18-10 at home. In the previous meeting this season, Georgetown used a 23-7 fourth-quarter run to pick up the 68-52 victory at Providence. Two Hoyas scored in double figures led by White who had 24 points and eight boards, while adding two steals. Adomako managed 20 points and 12 rebounds for her 14th double-double of her career. Of the 11 Hoyas who played, eight scored in the balanced attack. The last meeting at home was a 74-48 GU victory a season ago.
