WASHINGTON – Georgetown University freshman midfielder
Sean Zawadzki (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) was one of 20 players to be called into camp by U.S. Under-19 Men's National Team Head Coach Curt Onalfo for a combined three-team camp from January 4-13 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The U.S. U-20, U-19 and U-17 Men's National Teams will all be in attendance. There will be three games between the U.S. squads and a to-be-determined opponent that will be open to the public. The U-19s will face the U-20s on Jan. 8 at 4 p.m., and the U-19s will take on the U-17s on Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.
Of the 20 invited, 19 have played in the Development Academy for at least one season. In total, 13 players compete domestically for 10 clubs and three play internationally. Three, including Zawadzki, were selected from the college ranks.
Zawadzki was selected to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team this past season. He appeared in all 21 games with 13 starts and tallied his first career point with an assist in the tie with Stanford. Georgetown went 13-5-3 this past season. Along the way, the Hoyas claimed the 2018 BIG EAST Championship after entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed and earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth with the No. 13 overall seed.
The midfielder is no stranger to the national team system. He has been a part of a number of camps and teams in different age groups. This includes a third place finish at the Slovakia Cup with the U-19s in 2018.
The last Hoya to play in the national team system while on campus was goalkeeper
JT Marcinkowski who appeared in the U-20 World Cup. Additionally, current GU goalkeeper
Giannis Nikopolidis (Athens, Greece / Nea Genia Zirdi) plays with the U-19 Greek Men's National Team.
