Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Hoyas Edged by Providence 2-0

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team drops to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST after falling 2-0 on the road to Providence (11-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) Friday afternoon at Lennon Family Field.  The Hoya offense was able to find their target on five of their seven shot attempts but could not find the back of the goal. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • GU's forward Ellie Maransky had a shot at goal 10 minutes into the game. Maransky had two shots at goal on the day.

  • Providence Mary O'Reilly scored an unassisted goal with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter. 

  • Georgetown came out strong in the third quarter, outshooting Providence 4-3.

  • The Friars stretched their 1-0 lead in the fourth quarter on a goal from Amanda Collins. 

 

OF NOTE

  • Georgetown goalkeeper Ciara Weets added five saves to her season total, giving her 77. 

  • Providence won the shots battle 12-7. 

  • The Friars held the edge in penalty corner 6-2

 

UP NEXT

Georgetown will close the season out next weekend with a BIG EAST matchup at UConn Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. before traveling to face Sacred Heart at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3.
