WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team welcomed the newest member of the program on Friday afternoon as 7-year-old Drew Snapkowski officially became a Hoya. Drew, who hails from nearby Aldie, Virginia, joined the baseball program through Team IMPACT.

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,800 children with more than 600 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 55,000 participating student athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.

"This is a pretty special day for the Georgetown Hoyas and our baseball program," said Georgetown Head Coach Pete Wilk. "We welcomed our newest and youngest recruit, and probably toughest too. We are happy to join Drew Snapkowski, from the Class of 2034, to the program and baseball family."

At a press conference on Georgetown's campus in front of his family, new teammates and coaches and other members of the Georgetown athletics department, Drew officially signed his national letter of intent (NLI) and donned a Georgetown hat, officially becoming a Hoya. As a member of the program, Drew will attend Georgetown practices, games and other team events.

"We are very happy to have Drew join our team. He is an inspiration to all of us and is a great kid," said Georgetown infielder Eddie McCabe.

"To find an organization like Team IMPACT that partners families and kids with sports is pretty amazing," said Drew's dad, Michael Snapkowski. We are a pretty big baseball family, so when Team IMPACT reached out to us and wanted to connect us to Georgetown we were all in because Coach and the team was all in. We can't wait to get out there on the field and watch the ballgames and watch the Hoyas win. There is no doubt that Drew is pumped up."
