Georgetown and Syracuse Renew Rivalry on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball hosts former BIG EAST rival Syracuse on Saturday to open a four-game homestand. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is set for 1 p.m.
 
GAMEDAY INFORMATION
  • Saturday's game will be broadcast live on FOX with Gus Johnson calling the play-by-play, Jim Jackson providing analysis and Andy Katz reporting from the sidelines.
  • The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 radio station with Rich Chvotkin in his 46th season on the call.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown opened the game on a 20-2 run and never looked back, defeating SMU 91-74 last Saturday at Moody Coliseum.
  • Jahvon Blair led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures as he tied his career high with 21 points. He made a personal best seven 3-pointers, the most by a Hoya since Rodney Pryor hit seven on Nov. 30, 2016 against Coppin State.
  • Mac McClung finished with 19 points, including five treys, and added a career-best seven assists.
  • Omer Yurtseven also added 19 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Jamorko Pickett rounded out those in double figures with 11 points.
  • Terrell Allen recorded a career-high 10 assists, topping his previous best of nine set in 2017 while at UCF.
  • Georgetown shot a season-best 55.7 (34-61) percent from the floor and made a season-high 14 3-pointers, the most by a GU team since the same victory over Coppin State in 2016.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded SMU 36-34 and finished with 26 assists on 34 made field goals, the most in a game since Dec. 12, 2010 when Georgetown had 27 assists against Appalachian State.
 
SCOUTING SYRACUSE
  • Syracuse enters the game with a 5-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the ACC. The Orange have played two common opponents with the Hoyas, losing to both Oklahoma State (86-72) and Penn State (85-64) as part of the NIT Season Tipoff.
  • As a team, Syracuse is averaging 72.1 ppg while allowing opponents 63.3 ppg.
  • Elijah Hughes leads the Orange with an average of 19.6 ppg, including 32 made 3-pointers.
  • Buddy Boeheim is second in scoring with 14.1 ppg, while Joseph Girard III paces the offense with 42 assists
  • Bourama Sidibe leads Syracuse on the glass with 6.8 rpg.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Saturday will be the 95th meeting between the former BIG EAST rivals with Syracuse leading the all-time series 51-43. The two teams have split the four meetings since Syracuse joined the ACC.
  • The Orange won last year's meeting 72-71 at the Carrier Dome, hitting the winning shot with just 2.8 seconds left. Jessie Govan had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while McClung finished with 18 points.
  • Overall, the Hoyas are 214-186 all-time against current members of the ACC, including an 81-73 setback to then-No. 1 Duke earlier this year as part of the 2K Empire Classic.
 
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will continue their homestand to close out nonconference play as they host UMBC at Capital One Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1. Fans can listen locally on The Team 980 with Rich Chvotkin on the call.
