WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's basketball center
Omer Yurtseven was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season on Monday, as announced by the conference office. The selection recognizes Yurtseven's efforts in a pair of Georgetown wins over UMBC (81-55) and Samford (99-71) at Capital One Arena.
Yurtseven averaged 27.0 points and 15.0 rebounds while shooting at a 74.3 (26-35) clip from the floor in the two victories that extended Georgetown's winning streak to five games. He had game highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action during Tuesday's win over UMBC. He finished an efficient 11-of-14 from the floor and added three blocks on the defensive end. In GU's win over Samford on Saturday, Yurtseven set career highs with 32 points and 17 rebounds, recording a double-double by halftime for the second-straight game. He was 15-of-21 from the floor and added four more blocks.
This is Yurtseven's fourth selection to the honor roll this season after earning it in three-consecutive weeks to start the year. For the season, the center leads the Hoyas with 18.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg, which ranks fourth and second in the BIG EAST, respectively. Yurtseven is the only player in the conference to have scored in double figures in every one of his team's games.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will wrap up nonconference play when they conclude their homestand against American University on Saturday, Dec. 28. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for noon and the game will be broadcast on FS1. Fans can listen locally on The Team 980 with Rich Chvotkin on the call.
