WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday to battle the Villanova University Wildcats at 1 p.m. at the Finneran Pavillion. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with DJ Sixsmith and Christine Motta calling the action and Marisa Pilla on sideline. The Hoyas are currently 11-13 on the season and 5-8 in league play.
Last weekend, the Hoyas dropped a pair of contests on the road against tough league opponents. GU was edged by No. 8/7 Marquette on Friday evening 59-52. Graduate student guard
Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) was one of three Hoyas in double figures leading the way with 17 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard
Nikola Kovacikova (Levice, Slovakia / UKF Nitra) had 13 points going 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Senior guard
Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) contributed 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. In the loss on Sunday to DePaul, GU fell 76-71 despite three Hoyas managing double figures led by White with 16 points, four steals and four rebounds. In the contest, White became Georgetown's all-time career steals leader.
GU has three players averaging double digits as Adomako and White lead the team with 16.0 and 15.3 ppg, respectively. Graduate student
Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) is third with 10.7 ppg. Adomako and White are averaging 8.0 and 7.5 rpg to rank first and second on the squad, White has a team-best 78 assists on the season as well as 66 steals, and Venson has 58 helpers to her credit. Adomako leads GU with 41 blocks, while junior forward
Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) also has 41 blocks to her credit.
Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in blocks with 4.9 bpg. Adomako ranks fourth in the league in scoring, while White sits at sixth and Venson at 26th. Adomako is fifth in rebounding and White is eighth. White ranks second in the conference in steals, and Adomako is second in the league in blocks per game while Kelava sits behind her at third.
Villanova is 15-9 overall and 8-3 in BIG EAST play. Last weekend, the squad snapped a four-game win streak with a pair of losses against DePaul (93-70) and No. 8/7 Marquette (93-55). The Wildcats are led in scoring by Gedaka who is averaging 14.0 points per game and Jekot with a 13.7 points per game average. Hahn is third on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per contest. Gedaka is also the team's top rebounder at 6.9 per contest.
Georgetown is 23-42 against the Wildcats but 7-23 on the road. In the meeting earlier this season at home, Georgetown won by a score of 68-63. In that contest, Adomako and White scored a combined 53 points. Adomako also contributed 11 rebounds to her 28 points and shot 50 percent (11 for 22) from the field. White contributed 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. She also shot 50 percent throughout the game (6 for 12) and was 11 for 13 from the free throw line. The last meeting in Pennsylvania was a 68-67 Hoya loss. Last year the Hoyas went 1-2 against 'Nova losing both games during the regular season, but winning 63-58 at the BIG EAST Tournament in Chicago.
